    Dude's numbers look less impressive than I remember. He didn't walk for shit. Didn't steal bases or hit homers (35 career). Didn't drive in runs. Decent average I guess at .288. Konerko ended with a .279. So Nellie must have been all defense.

    Was this like the white guys' 1950 version of Ozzie Smith?

    What the stats don't show is that Nellie Fox was clutch! A kind of prehistoric Joe Crede, if you will.

    That's very different than number retirement. The criteria to get on that is very easy.

    2,000 or more PA's seems like a very low bar. That's basically 4 full seasons. With that criteria, Gordon Beckham, Adam Dunn, Alex Rios would get in if the Sox did this.
