Which is more scathing to Paterno's legacy: the Freeh report or a bio explaining that a football coach essentially cried himself to death?
Kind of like that bad day Jeffrey Dahmer had when the cops found the bodies in the freezer
Joe Pa reportedly:
- Knew what "omniscient" means and used it in a sentence
- Asked his son what the word "sodomy" means
What a lazy piece of shit Posnanski turned out to be. He gets utterly pantsed when this scandal broke right before his Paterno-knob-schlobbing piece went to print, and instead of writing about the real Joe Paterno now that all of this has come to light (the story that he had to ignore while "researching" this work), he splices in a chapter about how "well, he was really, really cool, and he clearly didn't do anything wrong, but this Freeh asshole and a bunch of other people want to drag his name through the mud with all this 'evidence' and 'investigation', so here, you decide (but keep in mind he did a bunch of really, really nice stuff)." Kiss my ass, lazy hack.
Not that I don't think Posnanski hasn't magically transformed from incisive to milquetoast in like 5 months, but that's not really what his book seems to be
From what Deadspin quoted, it looks as though Posnanski is trying to stick to the narrative of "Paterno didn't really understand what was going on" and thus his inaction was not part of a malicious cover-up, but just an old man being passed up by the problems of the modern world. Thing is, he directly contradicts the very narrative he is trying to weave in the first excerpt:
1.) This indicates that Paterno, by his own admission, even when he was first told by McQueary what was seen in the showers, that he decidedly DID understand "rape...and a man", because to the clueless version of Paterno, the caveat would be meaningless.
2.) Posnanski goes right up to the point where HE (Posnanski) would be saying, "He didn't understand rape", but then sleazily pushes it off solely on Paterno in a bullshit attempt to "let the reader make their own decision".
It's clear the narrative Posnanski wants to retain, despite what he says about "telling both sides", and the fact that there are other direct contradictions and non-mentions* concerning this whole ordeal illustrate the piss that fuckhead hack has taken.
*Posnanksi talks about how Paterno said he wasn't involved in Sandusky's retirement negotiations, then fails to mention (1) that the Freeh Report contains irrefutable evidence that Paterno was at least directly aware of both the negotiation specifics and the murmurs surrounding his relationships with children (which would even further indicate that Paterno was aware of the '98 investigation) and (2) Paterno had hastily negotiated his own front-loaded retirement deal well before he even knew he would be fired.
Posnanski's book looks like a world class piece of shit written by a writer whose writing is increasingly become epitomized by piece of shit after piece of shit
Who is epitomizing his writing?
Also looks like on Amazon on the die hard Paterno supporters are going to come out on full force and giving the book 5 star ratings. Currently 7 out of 11 ratings have it at 5 stars.
What are you talking about who? I mean his blog entries are increasingly becoming Mike Lupica-esque pablum about how Tiger doesn't do things the right way like Nicholson or clueless screeds about how Casino sportsbooks want the favorites to win because they lose less money that way (lol)
Oh okay I was confused, I didn't catch that you meant each time he writes something new it gets worse and worse, thought "piece of shit" meant other sports writers, not his writing entries.
If I meant people I'd have said: "Human Garbage"
It's a sad fall from grace from a promising sports writer. He had a good gig going at SI, I don't know if he quit or was asked to leave but he doesn't have that anymore. Not sure where he really goes after this Paterno fallout.
Well, at least he got that $750,000 advance for writing that book.
I guess if someone offered me $750,000 to publicly defend Paterno I might do the same.
He was the best working sportswriter and then around the time of the Paterno scandal he suddenly transformed into some Milquetoast mid-career Rick Reilly shit
My friend once, as an insult, said "you are dumber than Rick Reilly" to me.
I was offended.
Lawsuit filed against Penn State by Sandusky "Victim 1":
That....sounds REALLY expensive...
Get those donations in now!
Dude if a friend says that to you he's not your friend.
Jason Whitlock destroys Joe Posnanski's Paterno book:
Man, that is a pretty expert takedown from old uneven Whitlock
Yeah, someone should look into why no one said anything. Why hasn't anyone done that?
I would think a Catholic leader might have some insight into that. If he ever gets a break from shuffling sex offenders to different parishes, he should let us know
I bet Penn State: Altoona could use a campus minister.
Altoona campus rules
Sentencing tomorrow. Based on this shit, I hope he gets 500 years.
Sandusky has released a statement:
Whatever, near future rape victim.
It's like he's trying to get the death penalty for this. Of course that's technically impossible, but he's trying to force them to make an exception.
I especially like the complete and total lack of refuting any specific accusation made against him.
This is priceless:
Sounds like someone is pissed they hired Lawerin' Joe and Karl Rominger.
Sandusky gets 30 to 60, by the way, as per the radio.
In IL, he'd be looking at multiple consecutive life sentences.
(Yes, IL has consec. life, even though that's impossilble to serve.)
Tell that to the Risen King!
He only died once
Which begs the question, do you think Jesus ever suffered from cold or flu-like symptoms?
