Chubs lowballed Arrieta with $7.5MM offer; he asked $13MM. By far biggest disparity.

Seems like a pretty insulting offer from the Cubs.

I got a presale for Billy Joel tickets at Wrigley; they want $27.75 per ticket service charge. That is the highest I have ever seen.

That's only on the highest tickets; the cheapest ones are "only" $17.75 per ticket.

The Ricketts are going to soak every possible penny out of that club (to their credit they are reinvesting in the team as well).

The whole "charm" of having a stadium propping up neighborhood small businesses is almost fully eroded. They've bought most of the rooftops along with some adjacent land, and are angling to bring a lot of the pre and post game bar spending into their coffers.

Their fans will probably eat it up, too, because

    :helloexactly:

It isn't necessarily about owning a baseball team. It's about owning a stream of assets that work in tandem to maximize the bottom line, and the Urinal is just one facet. I'm sure if they could get away with it, they'd put on a dozen concerts a summer there, heavily focused on the :oldman: :whitepeople: music like Bill E. Jo-ell.

$27.75 per ticket service charge? Unless they're servicing your dick, the service charge is too damn high.

They want as many concerts as possible. I've heard from someone in their business operations the focus will continue to be acts that can command huge ticket prices (hence skewing so old) and also country acts because they sell unfathomable amounts of booze at those shows.

I think I may try and get some of these tickets to flip them for a profit. These Wrigley Field concerts seem to always been in high demand. I was able to go to Foo Fighters for a profit since I bought 4 and sold 2.

Didja see that the Wrigleyville bars are afraid that the Cubs are going to put them out of business and are basically demanding that the Cubs engage in price fixing to ensure that people continue to frequent their bars before and after games.

Hard to believe it, but those owners are making the Cubs look like the good guys. Fuck them.

    maurice Gangster of Love

There's a precedent for that sort of thing. The rooftop owners have mostly sold out to the Cubs.

On our side of town, JR very carefully made sure that there was nothing within 2 blocks of the Cell, but that move backfired.

Not sure what they're afraid of, but drinks in the park are still way more expensive than what you can get at any of the bars around the park. Are they worried the Kubs will open their own bar(s) a la the one on the north side of 35th Street? Even if they did, I'm sure shit would be priced similarly to how it is within the park's confines. And even if it isn't, the Rickett$ aren't going to be unloading pints of Anti-Hero for $4...they'd charge at least the going rate, and probably more, because it's the KUBBIES!1!!!

On game days most places around Wrigley are $6-$7 for a domestic can.

I can't imagine the Cubs would want to undercut that long-term, but if you are looking to establish new pre game behavior patterns you'd have to give the customer some incentive. I think that is what has bars owners shitting themselves.

If they can do it like the Red Sox -- where Sheffield (Yawkey) gets completely blocked off -- then they'd have something cooking, because the audience is captive there and just being within a stone's throw of the Urinals' fabled ivy would probably tickle the taints of hundreds of gullible rubes.

Yeah, they're doing a whole bar/retail/whatever the fuck development that will include a gigantic outdoor screen and doesn't require a game ticket for admission.

Went to a Lightning game last month and they have after parties on this outdoor patio within the arena with $3 beers. Would be hilarious to see the Cubs do that and undercut all the bars.
