Moving the goalposts.
Celebrating after another loss the day after clinching... false flags abound.
A lot of my cub fan friends on Facebook are really attempting to play this cool. Saying things like "waiting for the real playoffs to celebrate" and whatnot.
Not sure how amped I'd be able to get knowing there's a 50-50 chance the team's literally playing one more game. Then again, I follow the spidermen, so no need to contemplate such things
But there's NO WAY Arrietta loses the play in!
I wish baseball would cut the bullshit when it comes to the playoff spots and the nonsense of when to celebrate.
Eliminate divisions--unneeded with 5 of 15 in the postseason.
Play a more balanced schedule
Top 3 get in and celebrate when you clinch a "Top 3"
4th and 5th best teams play 1 game to get in, and don't celebrate fully until they win that game. Make it an actual Play In Game.
Then once the playoffs start, don't celebrate the first round anymore...it's dumb.
3 Champagne Celebrations max:
When you're one of four teams in your league in the playoffs
When you win a League Pennant
When you win the World Series
No divisions is never going to happen. Fuck balanced schedules, no one wants to see the SOX play 18 games @ LAA, OAK, & SEA at 9pm. Local TV networks aren't shelling out for that.
They could do a more balanced schedule without playing more than 16-19 games out west. With some built in rules about getaway games, and weekend starts at 3:05 central, I could live with 10 games that start at 9:05.
76 games against the Tigers, Twins, Indians, and Royals?
Arrieta a perfecto through 6. Putting a bow on the Cy.
Wonder how long they're going to keep Arrieta in the game. Their odds of passing the Pirates this season are really tiny, so I'd err on the side of reducing his pitch count to keep him strong for the play-in game.
I imagine he starts Friday and goes 5 and then he is on normal rest for the playoff. The shitty thing for the Cubs is he can only pitch game 3 on regular rest. A game 5 would be short rest if they got that far. The playoff kind of fucks over a teams ace.
Don't want your ace fucked? Don't finish in 3rd place.
13th walk off win.
They're gonna be worse next year, right? RIGHT?!?
They should improve offensively though
Whether the Wild Card game is played in Pittsburgh or Chicago, it appears that Cubs fans will be able to watch the game at Wrigley Field regardless.
According to a Tribune report, the Chicago Cubs are planning on using their video boards to broadcast the one-game Wild Card game at Wrigley, in the event that the game is played in Pittsburgh.
So how do you get tickets? Well, according to the Tribune, the Cubs will offer tickets to season ticket holders first, and then on a first come first serve basis from there. It appears that all tickets will have a single set price (undetermined at the time).
This is incredible news, but even more awesome is that the Cubs plan on donating any proceeds from ticket sales to charity. Showing once more what an incredible franchise the Ricketts are running.
So they charge, say, $10/ticket to get in and donate $400K to charity.
Meanwhile, they sell a million+ bucks' worth of beer, merch and food, which they keep.
gotta say, seeing the cubs celebrate their "postseason" appearance after their 2nd straight loss to their division rival, who they're chasing, on saturday was one of the most pathetic things I've ever seen
After the first loss to the Pirates this weekend, I saw one of the Cubs pitchers interviewed. He said "there's no way we lose to these guys in a 1-game series." This 30 minutes after losing to them.
Sure, give em that bulletin board material...
Holy shit, is that an actual thing? Saw a Cubs fan on FB post it after the win last night and thought he was just being an insufferable cunt. Which he was, but makes more sense if the insufferable cuntitude is fanbase-wide.
One of their players said it and it became a Twitter meme. Douches are quite chilled.
That is the whole point of the play in game. So in theory you wont have a wild card team winning the World Series. Isn't it?
I think the theory is to get two more teams in the postseason to increase interest towards the end of the season.
That is indeed the reason.
I'm still right. That had something to do with it.
Gene's a Cubs fan now?
Looks like your sister.
How do you let yourself go like that?
Don't fat shame him, he's beautiful
MILWAUKEE -- Steve Bartman will not attend the Chicago Cubs' first playoff game in seven years despite a campaign designed to raise money to get him there.
A GoFundMe page started by Keque Escobedo was more than halfway to its goal of $5,000. Reached Friday, a longtime spokesman for Bartman said thanks, but no thanks.
"It's nice of these people to think of Steve, but he won't be taking advantage of the offer," Frank Murtha said. "He's perfectly capable of attending the game on his own, though he has no intention of being at the wild-card game."
Do you start someone else for the playoff game so you can pitch arrieta in game 1 and 4? Lester was the can't miss starter for Oakland last year and look how that worked out.
You have to start Arrieta in the play-in game. Can you imagine the queefing that would happen if, say, Lester loses?
Chicago Cubs third baseman Kris Bryant had the best-selling jersey in all of Major League Baseball during the regular season, according to sales on the league's official website.
The 23-year-old Bryant is the youngest player to lead the top-20 list, though youth is a theme among those that come off the racks the quickest.
Rizzos is also in the top 10. Must be nice to have 2 really good, young players not surrounded by a bunch of gay gentlemen.
Just saw an Arrieta interview on CBS. He was wearing headphones over his ears the entire time.
I hope he tears his labrum on the 1st pitch.
He was on the radio.
An in-person interview with a sports reporter on the 10:00 news.
Figured you were referring to the interview of him on 1000 I've seen 30 times today.
