Shields just gave up his 3rd home run of the game. Lots of deep flyballs being hit this game.

This has to be it. He'll be put on waivers, nobody will claim, and then he will be DFA'd before his next start making the way for Lopez.

I'm not saying I'd get a hit, or even make contact. But if there was one MLB pitcher I had to hit against I'd have to choose Shields. Out of his hand I expect every pitch to get blasted.

Total oversell on his part. Put no weight on it going to the cart. Scared shit out of me.

I didn't see the aftermath where he's carted off the field or whatever but, based only on the video of the collision, Moncada should be fine. His leg wasn't extended, so it didn't hyperextend or twist causing ligament damage. Garcia got the worst of it by far by eating a flying knee to the temple. Perhaps Moncada stayed down because he felt bad about almost murdering his teammate.

When Moncada stayed down my initial fear was he landed poorly post collision. It took a while for them to show a replay where Moncada's landing stated in the frame.

He was putting no weight on the knee and the Jays trainer was tending to him as Schneider was preoccupied. The way it played out made it seem worse than it hopefully has ended up.

He hit a 2-R HR in the 8th and a 2-out RBI single in the 9th.

Sanchez came off the bench to replace Moncada and scored 2 runs.

    :andruw:

Crazy the way these kids score runs late in games when most veteran teams would've just mailed it in.

Why even post about it, other than as a not so subtle dig at the team (which isn't exactly noteworthy by now)? How many stadiums are like Wrigley anyway? Seems like from my experience, a lot of these parks are surrounded by parking lots and at best team owned/operated bars connected to the stadium.

Being constantly compared to the Cubs is probably the worst thing about being a Sox fan anymore. It's something that outsiders don't seem to understand.

The Cubs drew 3 million people to watch a team lose 100 games. Why can't the Sox?
The Cubs have a ton of stuff to do outside their stadium. Why don't the Sox?
The Cubs have a huge payroll, why don't the Sox?
The Cubs always get a lot of media attention. Why don't the Sox?

The Sox really aren't that much different than most other teams. They just happen to share a city with one of the biggest anomalies in all of sports.

Would be hilarious if there was even *one* other MLB team site out there with a Haps-esque take on their team slash lyfe.

Really not sure why MLB parks are judged by what there is to do around. Who gives a shit? No one ever says it about Bears or Bulls/Hawks.

There's really not much to do around Miller Park. Citizens Bank Park is kind of in an isolated spot in South Philly and Yankee Stadium for the longest time was known for being in a dumpy area of town. Some teams are lucky to have the stadiums be in the downtown area where there's a lot of stuff going on, but I'm going to guess it's in the minority.

Off the top of my head, and from personal experience, these are the current stadiums where there is "stuff" to do around the ballpark:

    Wrigley
    Fenway
    Baltimore
    BURGH
    Seattle
    Cincy
    Cleveland
    Minny
    St. Louis (?)
    Detroit
    SF
    Arizona
    Toronto

    Not sure about Houston/SD.

St. Louis has the ballpark village right there which is awesome, but that whole city just sucks. I'd rather go to a game at the GRATE where limitless options are a train ride away vs having a "downtown" park and being stuck in a boring ass city

Several of the ones listed are near "downtown" areas, but that doesn't mean there's a lot to do. The immediate vicinity is still mostly parking lots, and downtown areas in mid-sized cities are closed on weekends and at 7pm on weekdays.

True. I was at a game in Cleveland on a Sunday afternoon and you could have rolled a bowling ball down the street two hours later and not hit anything.

Made out with a 4/10 and got a 5 second handy in the parking lot of ballpark village when I was in St Louis for work, so I guess that was cool though

Yep. Partied with Hangar and Longshot amongst others in 2005.
Handar was able to turn afoul into a positive with a Hulk Hogan looking Pads fan thanking him for 1984. That tripped a memory for the guy and he said "oh, yeah! We were chanting 'back in five! Back in five!'"

I don't know if I would include SF as China Basin is mostly residential and industrial. Although you are a short MUNI ride from the Embarcadero and North Beach
