I enjoy playing the occasional Galaga, Missile Command, Pac Man, etc. at bars. May have to check this place out.
Cheeses is intrigued by a retro '80s hipster concept?
Game I was most obsessed with was the Fun House pinball machine circa '92. Jam that fucking ball down the clown's mouth!!!
OMG video games I remember and you also remember. I'm so glad this is 2003 or so, and this idea is novel!
The "concept" is called Jillian's, and Boston had one 15 years ago.
Doesn't a place like this already exist in Brookfield?
Get drunk and play Missile Command? Yay, I'm 15 again!
fuck you so hard
We've had one here in LA for quite sometime.
I know it's in Wicker Park and all, but I don't know that this is a purely hipster concept. I know there is one in Dallas in the frattiest neighborhood imaginable.
Galloping Ghost isn't really a bar, in fact I'm almost positive they don't sell beer.
Positive is GG has a lot of awesome games not just the standard PacMan, Missile Command, etc. I mean it has those but also like 200 other games.
Yeah and Wicker Park is mostly yuppies now
They're linking it to a Williamsburg bar because the guy opening it used to manage that bar and is essentially ripping off their business plan, not because it's some sort of unique concept.
The one here was always BYOB and you just paid by the hour
Haven't been forEV ver though
If y'all are comparing this to BYOB arcades, then it's apples and oranges. This is a bar with BYO food.
There's a bar on Diversey that has Genesis and SNES. Played Mario Kart and NHLPA '93 there. Also has an awesome darts area. Place ruled.
Barcade was a good time for a while. Where else could you play Super Smash Bros. whilst listening to Appleseed Cast?
Home? Who does anything at home?
Galloping ghost doesn't serve but there is a bar down the street from there. On mondays you get free bacon
Also, a new arcade just opened up in Lake in the Hills on Algonquin road. Called No Limit
Appleseed Cast rules
Friend of a friend owns that. Lot of fight to get it open I'll probably check it out soon.
Might hit that place up when I get back home (which should be sometime in May).
This for sure smells like a 'Hosedabout.' It's also right off the Blue Line so everyone can get to it.
Yeah, check it out. It's called Galway Bay.
Sounds like a very authentic Irish Pube.
I did have a Magners there
What's the name of this joint. Somebody was just talking about finding a place w/ SNES for Saturday
How many bars could there possibly be on diversey
Galway Bay. It's at diversey and pine grove, right by Duffy's.
I drank a couch once
Bar is open.
Looked them on on aurcade. Ok game lineup but only 3 pinball games
My friend went the night it opened, said it got super packed so it wasn't cool. Sounds like it'd be cool when not super packed though.
I'm going to check it out sometime in the next few weeks.
Let me know when you go
Will do. Dave obviously lives not too far from there, I know you were moving too but you aren't too far out. Definitely shoot you a text when I do.
I live close. Can I attend?
Only if you drink fruity beer with me.
I probably woudn't drink there; all they have is like beers with seven names and PBR. I'll go down the street to Standard and get fucked up though.
That's fair, I still want to beat you in NBA Jam.
I have no doubt you can beat me in NBA Jam. If it was NHL Open Ice you'd get your ass handed to you. I'm a little mad they don't have Mortal Kombat II but they do have Street Fighter II:Championship Edition so I can get some Vega action going. Was there ever a worst character in a fighting game than the Mike Tyson guy? Balrog? Was that his name?
Balrog, yeah he wasn't good. He's still not even good in those games. Then again if you don't really know how to play he's fun to play with because his moves are all relatively simple.
Loved the people that would be Ed Honda and just do that slap move in the corner.
Or the Blanka electricity the whole match. I think the first time I ever won the game was with Blanka doing to the electricity thing.
I'm in walking distance from that area now.
