You're a fucking idiot. Sure, closers are cheap but why sell low? Friendly deal going forward is not end of term Rios-like. There's absolutely no rush to hurry him out the door.
Anthrax has no concept of the Sox's/game's present financial state. To him the Sox are wasting money paying him, they're better off unloading dollars for nothing.
Like I said, the Sox often were in that position with KW ("Can't spend dollars when all I have are nickels"), but that's not the case right now. Hahn simply has a different, better approach. Robertson's deal isn't tying his hands. Hell, even his worst contracts aren't tying his hands. Hahn can just cut those guys if he needs to. He already has!
Robertson is about the last person I'd be concerned with taking up payroll on this current squadron.
Other allegations in the 500-page "tell-all" claim that Darryl Strawberry drank whiskey during games and Cecil Fielder played drunk on vodka. Priore also asserts that Bob Wickman, Jeff Nelson and Mariano Rivera tried to sexually assault him with a baseball bat.
There is (or was) beer in the Sox clubhouse during games.
It's rumored that Buehrle was blasted when he earned a save in the WS.
Where did you hear this?
Coop said he had 'a beer'. There was a lot on it when he pitched here a few months ago.
I thought it was a different game; not the WS game.
What was the special that aired on CSN just a few months ago? IIRC, Buehrle himself said he was in the clubhouse having a beer because he didn't think there was any reason he would have to pitch.
Edit: It was called Believe: The Story of the 2005 White Sox.
OK, one beer: makes sense, is fine.
Getting plowed during our first World Series in a billion years when there is a slight chance you might have to pitch:
OK, I guess I mis-remembered. I found a write up about the special in the Tribune.
Royals *OFFICIALLY* clinch the division title...their first in 30 years.
I was thinking about this earlier.
I really think the Royals are on the way to a divisional dynasty. In my lifetime, I've seen the Indians, Twins, and Tigers dominate for a period. And now the Royals are going to. And 1 team has had a shit load of 2nds and now the last 3 years.
Does that not blow your mind? Yeah, they fluked their way to 1 World Series, but man has my entire lifetime as a SOX fan been disappointing.
It seems that way at least for the next year or so, doesn't it?
I'm not big on predicting longterm trends, so who knows what awaits us in 2017 and beyond.
Yet the Sox are the only AL Central team to win the WS in recent history. You have to go back to what, the 91 Twins? I'll take that trade off. Assuming we don't really dominate long term in the next 10 years but win another WS randomly.
Second place finishes and disappointed fans. That's kinda been their mo since forever.
Big Boner Buccos now with a 5-1/2 game lead over the Kubbies with 7 left to play.
Cole/Arrieta is appointment TV
Fuck both the Sox and the Cubs for having the largest market in their divisions in a sport with no salary cap and pissing it away.
Cardinals lost starting pitcher Carlos Martinez for the rest of the season. Considering that they already lost Adam Wainright much earlier in the year, this means they'll be missing their top two arms as they enter the postseason. Shit.
He's pretty good
Is Molina out of the year too? That's a pretty big loss too.
All signs pointing to the stars aligning for the Cubs!!! (Or Pirates)
He's all the way up that fucking wall
Definitely sleeps dick up.
Papelbon attacks Harper in the dugout.
deepest of dickings
Papelbon is such a fucking bitch. Harper is a known d bag, but Papelbon is on another level that makes Harper seem a sympathetic figure. Matt Williams should be fired today for just being a shitty manager and all around asshat. Rizzo should probably go to for hiring Williams and making that stupid Papelbon trade that basically destroyed their season.
Remember this bit of douchechillery?
Dude deserves to get punched in the face many times for that.
Last week I read something that said Wainright and Molina "should" be back for the playoffs.
Wainwright will work out of the bullpen, from what I've heard. Shades of 2006!!!!11
Nats suspend Papelbon 4 games.
He's one of Theo's ol Red Sox boys. The douchefaggotry is not surprising. Also, Matt Williams might be the worst manager this year if not in MLB. The Nats were penciled in as World Series favorites at the beginning of the season. My best bud from the Army is a Mets fan so Washington's Epic Fail of a year thrills him.
The Ny Mets are my favorite squadron.
Astros now half a game behind the Angels for the second WC spot.
Rooting for a tie so there's a game on Monday night, but the thought of a one game play-in with Trout at Yankee Stadium sounds pretty appealing.
Let's give them back LaRoche for Papelbon. The money is about even, no?
Check this scenario out. If the season unfolds like this
Needs to finish out 6-0, or 5-1* if Tex and LAA both lose today
3 @ Cle
3 @ KC
Needs to finish out 2-3, or 1-4* If they lose today
1 v Det, 1-0 or 0-1* If LAA loses
4 v LAA, 1-3
Needs to finish out 4-1, or 3-2* If they lose today
1 v Oak, 1-0, or 0-1* if Tex loses
4 v Tex 3-1
Hou 83- 75
Needs to finish out 4-0, or 3-1* If Tex and LAA both lose today
1 @ Sea
3 @ Ari
All of those teams would then finish 86-76, or 87-75 and there would be a 4 way playoff. If Tex/LAA wins and the other loses today then there can no longer be a 4 team playoff scenario.
Basically this would make it so one team would play the Twins and if the Twins won they are the Wild Card. If the Twins lost the winner of that game would play the winner of the other game, with the winner being declared the Division Championship and the loser being the Wild Card. They would then go play the Yankees.
Hell if the Yankees lost out, or won 1 game there could be 5 teams playing for those 3 spots.
IIRC, they don't have a playoff game to determine the division winner if both teams are going to the post season anyway. There is some tie breaker like H2H record or something.
No, they do. That was true when a wild card spot got you into the DS, but not now.
Jays, and Cards clinch.
