sox offseason thread or gtfo
We have one, do we not?
This should go in the off-season thread that is locked..
AZI, fired GM and Manager today.
Who locked the offseason thread? Not I.
sounds like you guys run a tight ship
so why does the log not show who locked the thread?
I don't think we're allowed to talk about that.
It appears that the logs do show if you lock a thread, so at best, I'd say the evidence provided was inconclusive.
I blame Assange
I'm sure you mods will talk more about this behind our backs on the hidden board as per usual.
but cheeses took the original log screen shot, does he even know what a computer is?
Does he even own a cellular phone?
Still types "http://" in the address bar.
Only thing I can think of is that thread defaulted to locked because I posted from my phone.
nice try, mr. robot
You can even ask the mods about my IP, I'm not in dekalb.
Braves signing Colon and Dickey
Flowers will fix em.
Innings eaters who may have value in July. not bad signings at all.
McCann to Houston.
Reddick signing there too.
Rangers hazing haps.
Why do all these extreme hazing incidents involve doing gay shit? Putting stuff up a dude's butt, getting him naked or touching his dick? Pretty fucking retarded
Because jocks are often closet gays
Cespedes staying in Queens. 4yr/$110MM
Chris Carter designated for assignment by the Brewers. Dude hit 41 homers last year.
Did he bat over .200?
Yes. This has to be the first time the league leader in home runs with controllable years left has gotten sent down. At least pretend you want to keep him and get something for him.
41 HRs, 0.9 WAR. That's some shitty value.
Cause he can't field for shit. Has to be worth something to an AL team.
WAR - what is it good for?
A: Not 1Bs
His dWAR is slightly ahead of Abreu, but his oWAR is just over half of his.
Has a lot more to do with his 32% K rate.
And just as a note, I'm not disagreeing that he's a bad fielder. He is. But that isn't the cause for a horrible WAR.
The trouble with Carter is that he has never managed to reach base consistently. He also led the National League with 206 strikeouts last year. Then there’s the fact that he’s rather limited in the field. Carter’s days in the outfield are probably numbered, and he drew negative metrics last year at first.
OK so now according to WAR a guy that hit 41 homers and 98 rbi is rendered useless?
I'm not defending home boy or saying he's a good player. Just saying this has to be the first time the league leader in home runs with controllable years left has been let go.
Position factors into dWAR so having a negative dWAR as a 1B isn't necessarily a bad thing, it just means 1B is one of the least valued positions on the field. Guys like Helton and Mattingly have negative dWARs for their career and they have multiple gold gloves. Not sure why the Brewers didn't at least try and trade him for something.
He's not useless, the problem is that his value is suppressed by WAR standard by playing a less valuable position.
Let's look at a comparison with a player with incredibly similar offensive production this season. Carter is the top line.
The defensive difference is the biggest thing separating them, as offensively they're damn near equals. And Player 2 had a bad defensive year by his standards. Player 2 is a better base runner as well, which helps a tad.
Player 2 is Todd Frazier
Former Sox farmhand Chris Carter, traded for TCQ.
CBA is done.
No more losing 1st rounders for signing QOed FAs.
The #MLB season will start five days earlier beginning in 2018,providing 5 more off-days per year, giving players 5 more days of service time
So Opening Day would be a Wednesday. Gay.
That's kind of interesting with the extra off days. Makes a lot of sense, and probably only at the expense of what is already an interminable spring training.
It'll be the 28th in 2018.
All Star game deciding WS is caput.
This time it no longer counts. Glad they dumped that bs rule. Most wins gets home field adv. Didn't see anywhere how a record tie is sorted out
